The Sunshine Center provides a safe and comfortable setting where families can maintain their relationships, resolve issues that created the need for foster care, and reduce trauma associated with out of home placement.
Evidence shows that the first six months after placement are critical to reuniting families and is a key component of any permanency plan. Birth parents are given the support of one-on-one visit coaching with a trained staff member, who helps them use a variety of different methods to help the parent address issues related to the reason for placement. Role modeling, coaching and instruction, and teaching parents the importance of playing with their children allows parents to practice the specific skills they need.
The Sunshine Center offers visit rooms for infants, toddlers, and teens. A large family room is available to accommodate families with multiple children, as well as a full kitchen for cooking activities and meals and a large fenced in playground.
